About this novel

Born into notoriety as the son of a condemned murderer in Chen Kong Alley, young Jiang Qi carried more than his sharp features and hollow gaze—he bore the weight of others' judgment. Bruised and bleeding, he wandered through childhood cursed for blood he never spilled, an outcast marked by parentage. Only Zhi Qi saw past the veil of disdain. Through trembling hands and gentle tears, she tended his wounds and offered sanctuary: "Why must you suffer? Let me ease your pain."

His answer was simplicity wrapped in survival: "Your comfort makes it bearable."

By high school, Jiang Qi had shed his vulnerability like shed skin, becoming Lin Lan's most feared figure—a cold, ruthless legend known only as the madman. Yet beneath the reputation lay a truth he carried alone: most of his existence mimicked that of a stray dog, relentless and feral, teaching the world to fear him before it could break him. Zhi Qi remembered his confession and never flinched.

Determined to reverse the scars trauma had carved, Zhi Qi ascended the school rooftop where he'd claimed her, and made a vow that trembled with intention: "Jiang Qi, endure. When I come of age, I will marry you." His response—a knowing smile beneath starlit eyes—held fragile hope for a future he thought impossible.

That promise became his lifeline, yanking him from the abyss he'd nearly surrendered to. Redemption, however, expires. When midnight came, the broken boy remained untethered, clinging to the only sweetness he'd ever known: her name. Jiang Qi, the mad dog with nothing, still had Zhi Qi.
