About this novel

Reborn as the neglected youngest son of Emperor Wu of Zhou, Zhao Yao must navigate treacherous court intrigues and survive the ruthless struggle for imperial succession. To endure the deadly competition among princes, he adopts a strategy of patient restraint. When he finally comes of age and receives his noble title, his father banishes him to the remote and desolate province of Lingnan—a land known for its poverty and hardship.

Yet Zhao Yao refuses to accept defeat. He channels his efforts into developing infrastructure and boosting agricultural production, gradually transforming Lingnan from a forsaken wasteland into a thriving, prosperous region. As he enjoys the fruits of his labor and the peaceful life he has built, an unexpected crisis shakes the empire. Desperate ministers embark on a thousand-li journey to his doorstep, imploring him to claim the dragon throne.

Zhao Yao stands bewildered. Have these officials taken leave of their senses?
