Carrying the Lycan Cursed child

chapter 28

Ch. 28 / 30 Mar 26, 2026

POV Kali

The week following Alexander's birth and Zion's death passed in a blur of impossible contradictions - deep grief mixed with overwhelming joy, the weight of new responsibilities balanced against the strength I'd inherited from my mate's sacrifice.

"Your Majesty," Beta James said as we reviewed the morning reports, "the response from neighboring kingdoms has been remarkable. Instead of seeing opportunity in our transition, they're sending congratulations and offers of alliance."

"Because of the story," I realized, adjusting Alexander in my arms as he nursed. "A king who died for love and a queen who survived the impossible."

"Exactly. The supernatural light during the birth was seen for miles. Everyone understands they witnessed something miraculous."

I looked down at my son, who continued to amaze everyone with his awareness and the gentle glow that surrounded him. Even at one week old, Alexander seemed to recognize voices, respond to emotions, and radiate an otherworldly presence that marked him as different from ordinary children.

"The nobles are asking for a formal presentation," James continued. "They want to see the prince and discuss regency protocols."

"Schedule it for tomorrow," I decided, surprised by the confident authority in my own voice. "It's time for the kingdom to meet their future king properly."

The formal presentation took place in the great hall, with representatives from every major pack and territory. As I entered carrying Alexander, wearing the deep blue robes of state that had belonged to Zion's mother, I felt the assembled crowd's mixture of curiosity, respect, and genuine awe.

"Lords and Ladies," I addressed them, my voice carrying clearly through the vast space. "I present Prince Alexander Crescent, heir to the Lycan throne and living proof that some curses can be transformed into blessings."

Alexander chose that moment to demonstrate his supernatural nature, his soft glow brightening until light patterns danced across the stone walls. The effect was both beautiful and impressive, marking him unmistakably as a child of destiny.

"The curse that plagued the royal bloodline is broken forever," I continued. "Prince Alexander will rule free from the choices that destroyed his predecessors, able to choose love without paying the ultimate price."

Lord Harrington, one of the most senior nobles, stepped forward. "Your Majesty, we acknowledge Prince Alexander as our rightful king and you as our regent. But what assurance do we have of stability during his minority?"

It was a fair question, and I had prepared for it. "I offer you the assurance of a mother who has already sacrificed everything for her child, a queen who understands what it means to be dismissed and overlooked, and a ruler who learned leadership not from books but from surviving impossible circumstances."

I outlined the policies I intended to implement - protection for smaller packs, fair trade agreements, justice systems that served all people rather than just the powerful. With each proposal, I watched the nobles' expressions shift from skepticism to interest to genuine respect.

"These are the principles King Zion died to protect," I concluded. "I will honor his sacrifice by building the kingdom he envisioned - one founded on love rather than fear, service rather than control."

The response was overwhelmingly positive. Several lords approached afterward with offers of support and alliance, their initial doubts replaced by recognition of both my determination and Alexander's obvious significance.

"You've changed," Lady Elena observed during a private moment after the ceremony. "Not just your position, but who you are fundamentally."

"I had to," I replied. "The woman who was married to Kastian could never have survived what I've been through. The queen who will raise Alexander had to be forged through fire."

That evening, as I prepared Alexander for sleep, I spoke to him about the father he would never remember but whose influence would shape every day of his life.

"Your papa was the strongest, bravest, most loving man I ever knew," I told him, watching his silver eyes track my face with that uncanny intelligence. "He gave his life to make sure you could live freely, choose your own path, love without fear."

Alexander made a small sound, and his glow pulsed in a rhythm that reminded me achingly of Zion's heartbeat. Sometimes I swore I could feel his presence in our son's supernatural abilities, as if his essence really had become part of Alexander's fundamental nature.

"We'll be strong," I promised both of them. "We'll build the kingdom he dreamed of, rule with wisdom and compassion, and make sure his sacrifice created something beautiful that lasts forever."

As I tucked Alexander into his crib and watched his gentle light illuminate the nursery, I realized that my transformation was ongoing. Each day brought new challenges that required me to grow, to become worthy of the trust placed in me.

I was no longer the broken Luna who had fled Kastian's cruelty. I was Queen Regent Kali, mother to a magical prince, ruler of a kingdom built on love's triumph over death itself.

And tomorrow, I would continue the work of proving that some endings really are beginnings, that sacrifice can create rather than destroy, and that love truly is the most powerful force in any world.
