Betty’s POV
Rain lashed against the windshield, the wipers struggling to keep up as the car sped down the dark, slick road. The world outside blurred into a haze of streetlights and shadows, but my focus was locked on Brent. His grip on the wheel was vice-like, his knuckles white as his foot pressed harder on the gas.
“Brent, slow down!” I pleaded, my voice trembling with fear. The car felt unsteady, the tires skidding slightly with every sharp turn.
He didn’t answer. His jaw was set, his expression carved from stone, but his eyes burned with something raw and dangerous.
“Brent, please,” I tried again, my hands gripping the seat as the car veered around another corner.
Finally, he slammed on the brakes, the car skidding to a halt in a narrow, dimly lit alley. My body jolted forward, the seatbelt biting into my shoulder. The rain was relentless now, pounding on the roof like a drumbeat, muffling the sounds of the city beyond.
Brent turned to me, his chest rising and falling with deep, uneven breaths. His face was a storm—anger, hurt, desperation all colliding in his eyes.
“Brent—” I started, but he cut me off, his hands reaching for me as he pulled me toward him.
His lips crashed into mine, rough and unyielding, his kiss filled with a need I couldn’t understand. My heart raced, panic bubbling up as I pushed at his chest.
“Brent, stop,” I said, my voice muffled against him, but he didn’t let go.
“Betty, I need you,” he said, his voice low and ragged, his hands sliding to my blouse, tugging at the fabric.
“Brent, stop!” I shouted, my voice sharp now as I shoved him away with all the strength I could muster.
He froze, his eyes wide and unfocused, his hands still hovering midair. For a moment, the only sound was the relentless drumming of the rain. His expression shifted, the fire in his eyes extinguished as if he’d just woken up from a dream—or a nightmare.
“Betty,” he whispered, his voice barely audible over the storm. “I—I’m sorry.”
I pressed myself against the door, my chest heaving as I tried to catch my breath. The fear and confusion swirling inside me were overwhelming, and I couldn’t bring myself to respond.
Brent’s hands fell to his lap, his head bowing as he slumped back into his seat. The tension in the car was suffocating, the weight of what had just happened pressing down on us like the rain outside. Neither of us moved, the silence between us broken only by the sound of the storm raging on.
