137: Can't stop thinking about him
He sat relaxed and glanced at his side to see Jess staring at him without a word. He looked away, avoiding her gaze. Her stares send chills of guilt down his spine.
As the chauffeur kept driving, Jess asked “Where are you taking me?” She found out about him that morning when she took her Mom to the hospital for a checkup.
He had reminded her to take her Mom to the hospital because they would henceforth get free medical treatment in the town's hospital.
She was told the hospital was now owned by Adrian Lester. And he offered her and her Mom free medical care whenever they visited. That made her question his words.
He said they would get free medical treatment and that's exactly what happened. She decided to google more information about the young billionaire Adrian Lester and his pictures popped up.
Despite the differences in the looks and appearance, she could find the connection, the similarities. How can a disguise be perfect when the eyes and the nose cannot be reformed?
Then the news of him being missing from New Jersey for a few months now. That was enough. She knew he was the one who saved her mother's life.
The $50 he returned with that day was a mere camouflage. He'd already paid for the surgery and bought the company.
“Somewhere serene” Adrian responded. How did she know? He'd been meticulous enough not to leave any traces behind, but she still got to know.
“No, I just want to be sure it's you, Nelson. I'm fine now, knowing that you were the one who saved my mother's life back then. Thanks” Jess appreciated.
“You aren't going anywhere tonight. You're staying at my place” Adrian announced. He would be needing her by his side to turn the eyes of ladies away from him.
“No Nelson, sorry Adrian. Mom is all alone at home. I can't leave her, she needs me”Jess explained. Her mom has got only her in her life now. She can't just let her stay alone at home.
Adrian nodded. He also needs to see his mother. She had stayed without him for too long. He would visit her soon.
“Your Mom will be taken care of. Trust me on that” Adrian assured. He immediately sent an email to Clem with the address and kept his phone in its place again.
As Patrick walked Aurora away, he said “If you ever want Adrian to notice you, make it deliberate” he advised.
“But did you see him with that woman? He's seeing someone already?” Aurora complained, a tint of jealousy in her tone. He now frolics around with other women right?
“What do you think, expect him to remain single? Adrian is a man, you can't blame him because you both are divorced” Patrick defended.
He sees nothing odd about his brother being with another woman. It only shows that he'd moved on after his separation from her. It is expected that any man in his shoes should move on, right?
“So soon? He can't even wait for a year before doing that?” Aurora complained again. Her eyes welled up with tears. Didn't he miss her at all?
Patrick was taken aback. Now he understands what was going on. Aurora is jealous. Otherwise, why would Adrian stay for a year before starting a relationship with someone else, what would he be waiting for?
“No Aurora, it doesn't make sense to wait that long. But tell me…” Patrick paused, holding the door for Aurora to slide in before going over to the other end.
He got in and continued “This is between you and I, tell me the fact, you've always loved my brother, right?”
Aurora looked away. She felt so back then but she's not sure if now. Only that she doesn't want to see him with any woman.
“No, I am not in love with him. I just want him to be fine, that's all” She replied and Patrick chuckled softly. She cares about him, but not in love with him. How ironic.
“He's perfectly fine, Aurora. But I see that you are hurt by something else. The best experience any woman can have is falling in love and being loved by Adrian.
I know that my brother has got some bad side, but he definitely knows how to love a woman. When he's in love with someone, he is deliberate and committed to it.
If you really care about him, go for him. Get his attention. Adrian is not a bad guy that doesn't deserve a woman like you. We all made mistakes in our lives, I made mistakes too.
But we all deserve a second chance. If you know seeing him with another woman is going to make you feel hurt, then go for him, be that woman that deserves his attention, be the only woman he can't stop thinking about…”Patrick advised.
The drive home was quietly done. Aurora didn't shove Patrick's words aside. But how can that be, when they're even divorced and he didn't even spare her a glance.
When Aurora got back, Nancy was waiting to welcome her home. She placed both of her hands on her daughter's shoulders and said “He's back and this time, you'll go all out to win his heart”
Aurora sighed softly “No mom, he'd gotten someone else already. But it's fine. I just want him to be fine and happy. There isn't anything that gladdens my heart than knowing he's safe and alive”
She isn't lying at all. Adrian is alive, happy and adding more meaning and fulfillment to his life is enough for her to feel happy for him and everything else.
But somehow, she's not happy with the scene that played before her a while back. What now, she's going to stay strong as his baby mama.
“No dear. Quitters never win. And have you seen winners who ever quitted? There isn't any woman out there who has a higher chance of being with Adrian like you do.
Yes, you heard me well. Besides your beautiful face and intelligent mind, you have his most treasured asset, his daughter. Elsie surpasses anything else in this life.
So tell me why you already feel discouraged? You should sit up, stay strong and get your man back…” Nancy advised.
For the rest of that evening, the picture of Adrian kept flashing through her mind. She logged into his website and saw the latest picture of him updated.
Then the picture of him and Jess at that moment flashed through her mind. Uneasiness gripping her, she decided to call Clem.
The latter saw the caller ID and immediately answered “Miss Blake” he said. It's been a long time since that woman last dialled his contact. She'd been so engrossed in romance with Patrick that she completely forgot everyone else.
“Where's your boss,Clem?”
