When they got home, Anabel watched in admiration as Desmond unloaded her bags one by one. He had told her not to touch anything. There was something deeply comforting in the way he insisted on doing it all himself. It was as if carrying her luggage was his way of carrying her heart back into their shared life.
Once everything was inside, Desmond led her through the familiar hallway, past the living room, and up the stairs to their bedroom. Anabel’s heart beat faster with every step. She hadn’t been in this space for months. Not since everything fell apart. She didn’t know what to expect.
But when Desmond opened the door and stepped aside to let her in, her breath caught in her throat. The room was exactly as she had left it. The soft cream curtains are still hung by the windows. Her favorite throw blanket was folded neatly at the foot of the bed.
The books on her nightstand seemed untouched, still stacked in the same order. She didn't take anyone when she left. And on the dresser were their photos. In the pictures, they were smiling, laughing, and holding each other.
Not a single one had been removed. Not a single frame was broken. Anabel stepped inside slowly, her eyes scanning every corner. It was as if time had paused in this room, waiting for her return.
She turned to Desmond, her eyes misty. “You… you didn’t change anything.”
“Actually, Daniella changed everything. She wanted to burn everything that belongs to you, but I didn't let her. I kept everything safe. When she left, I brought everything back and arranged it the way it was supposed to be. I know you will come back here. I know you belong here."
Without another word, Anabel threw her arms around him, burying her face in his chest. He held her tightly, his arms wrapping around her like a promise.
Then she looked up at him, her eyes shining, and kissed him deeply, tenderly, with all her love. That night, they had long, passionate sex. She was screaming so loud that Desmond's mom could hear her moans. She smiled at herself, happy that they were now together.
A few months later, the house that had once echoed with quiet anticipation was now filled with the soft, miraculous cries of new lives.
Anabel had given birth to twins. A beautiful baby girl and a bouncing baby boy. The moment Desmond held them in his arms, his heart swelled with a kind of joy he had never known. He looked at Anabel, exhausted but glowing, and whispered, “You have given me the world. What else should I ask for?"
News of the birth spread quickly, and soon the Orton household was alive with celebration. Sir Orton and his wife arrived the very next day, their faces lit with happiness.
Mrs. Orton wept softly as she cradled her granddaughter, while Sir Orton held the baby boy with a wide grin, already declaring he would grow up to be a great man.
The house was filled with laughter, prayers, and the aroma of home-cooked meals. Desmond's mom couldn’t stop smiling as she watched her son become a father.
They named the twins "Emmanuel and Emmanuelle" as a tribute to new beginnings, to unity, and to the love that had endured every storm.
As the weeks turned into months, the home grew warmer, fuller. Late-night feedings turned into lullabies sung in harmony. Their story, once marked by heartbreak and betrayal, had become a testament to forgiveness and resilience.
And so, surrounded by love, laughter, and the tiny hands of their future... They lived happily ever after.
THE END.
