Taste of Virgin Blood

Chapter 21

Ch. 21 / 30 Oct 23, 2025

Power doesn't announce itself with fanfare. It arrives quietly, in the space between command and obedience, in the moment a man who's survived two centuries decides that surrender is worth more than control.

James kneels before me, and I feel something fundamental rearrange inside my chest. Not triumph exactly—something deeper. Recognition. Like I've been searching for this configuration my entire life without knowing what I was looking for.

"Look at me," I say, and his eyes lift to mine immediately. No hesitation. No negotiation.

Obedience does something to me that hunger never has. Makes me understand why people chase power like addiction, why they'll destroy themselves and others to feel this particular electricity singing through their veins.

I've spent years being invisible. Being controlled. Being diminished by parents who saw me as an obligation, bosses who saw me as disposable, systems designed to keep me small and grateful for scraps. Even my transformation—James orchestrated that. Guided it. Made me into something new while still holding all the cards.

But right now, with him on his knees and my voice the only law that matters in this room, the power is entirely mine.

The VIP room contains equipment I'd only half-noticed before—restraints built into the walls, implements arranged with careful precision, tools designed for the careful negotiation of pleasure and pain. Emily's club caters to desires most people only whisper about, and suddenly I understand why.

Because sometimes surrender is the only honest response to being seen completely.

"Stand," I say, and he rises with fluid grace. "Against the wall."

He moves without question, and watching him obey makes something primal uncoil in my chest. This is what power tastes like—not the violence I've been drowning in, but choice. Mine.

The restraints are soft leather, designed for exactly this. When I buckle his wrists above his head, his entire body shudders.

"Is this what you need?" My voice comes out lower, darker. "To stop deciding for once?"

"Yes." The word breaks in the middle.

I shed my clothes slowly, letting him watch, letting anticipation build until his breathing turns ragged. His body responds before I even touch him—straining against the restraints, wanting what I haven't given permission to take.

"You don't move," I say, and the command lands like a physical thing. "Not until I say."

I explore him with deliberate slowness. My hands map territory he's kept controlled, restrained, civilized for two centuries. Every time he tries to lean into my touch, I pull back. Teaching him that I decide when. I decide how much.

The implements arranged on the wall catch my attention—tools designed for sensation, for the careful calibration of pleasure and its sharper edge. I select something simple: a flogger, the leather falls soft enough to tease.

"Tell me if it's too much." The negotiation matters, even here. Especially here.

"It won't be."

I start gently, letting the leather kiss his skin in patterns that make him gasp. With each strike, I learn what he needs—not pain exactly, but intensity. Proof that he's not in control. That someone else is finally carrying the weight he's been bearing alone.

When I release his wrists, he doesn't move. Still waiting for permission. Still surrendered.

"On the couch," I say. "On your back."

He lies down, and I straddle him, feeling his hardness beneath me but not giving him what he wants. Not yet. I lean down, my mouth finding his, and the kiss is all teeth and the raw satisfaction of taking.

"Please," he whispers against my lips.

The begging does something to me. Makes the hunger sharper. Makes the power more intoxicating than any blood could be.

I lower myself onto him slowly, watching his control fracture as I take what I want at the pace I choose. His hands come up to grip my hips, and I allow it. Allow him this small claim while I ride him with a rhythm designed to unmake him completely.

"Look at me," I command, and his gray-blue eyes snap to mine—desperate, worshipful, entirely mine.

The power of it builds with every movement. I'm not the invisible girl anymore. Not the victim. Not the thing to be saved or protected or controlled. I'm the one who decides. Who takes. Who commands.

His breathing changes, becomes ragged, and I feel him getting close. His fingers dig into my hips, body tensing beneath me in that telltale way.

"Don't," I say, and the command stops him like a physical barrier. "Not until I say."

The struggle plays across his face—centuries of control now turned against himself, forced to restrain the very release his body demands. He's shaking with the effort, and watching him fight against his own need purely because I've forbidden it transcends the physical.

I change my rhythm, moving faster, chasing my own pleasure while he trembles beneath me, trapped between obedience and desperation. When my climax crashes through me, I let him see every second of it—the loss of control I'm allowing myself while denying him the same mercy.

Only then, as I'm still shuddering with aftershocks, do I lean down and whisper against his mouth: "Now."

He breaks apart with a sound that's almost anguish, my name torn from his throat like something sacred and profane. The power of having unmade him so completely settles into my bones like a revelation.

This is who I'm capable of becoming.

We collapse together, breathless and sweat-slicked, the leather couch creaking beneath our combined weight. He looks at me like I'm something holy and terrible and entirely perfect. "I love you," he says quietly, and the words carry two hundred years of loneliness finally ending.

Before I can respond, my phone beeps.

The sound feels like reality intruding on sanctuary. I almost ignore it—almost let this moment stretch into forever. But something makes me check.

Whitney's name on the screen sends ice through my veins.

The video starts playing automatically. Security footage from the office—grainy but unmistakable. Me moving with vampire speed, papers scattering, my form blurring with inhuman grace.

Below the video: "Thought your friends and family should know what you really are. Sweet dreams, freak."

The words blur as horror crashes over me. She didn't just see. She documented. And she's already weaponized it.

"James—" My voice breaks.

He's beside me instantly, seeing the video over my shoulder, his expression hardening into something ancient and dangerous. "We can fix this—"

My phone rings. Alan's name flashes across the screen. I answer because not answering would be worse.

"What the hell, Tess?"
