Carrying the Lycan Cursed child

chapter 12

Ch. 12 / 30 Mar 26, 2026

POV Zion

My rage burned cold and controlled as I prepared to face Kastian's accusations. My wolf paced restlessly in my chest, wanting to tear apart the Alpha who dared challenge our claim on our mate. But I forced myself to stay calm. How I handled this confrontation would determine not just Kali's fate, but the stability of my entire kingdom.

The great hall had been arranged for formal negotiations, with representatives from both sides and neutral noble witnesses. I could smell the fear and excitement rolling off them. They knew they might be watching the beginning of a civil war.

James, I called through our mind-link, how many of our wolves are positioned around the hall?

Fifty of our best, Your Majesty. All armed and ready.

Good. If this goes badly, I want Kali protected above all else.

Understood.

The massive doors opened and Kastian entered first. His golden hair gleamed above polished silver armor, but what hit me immediately was his scent. Fury, desperation, and something else. Fear. He was afraid he was losing, and that made him dangerous.

Behind him marched twelve allied Alphas, all projecting dominance and righteous anger. Their combined Alpha power pressed against the air, trying to intimidate me in my own hall. My wolf bristled in response, and I let a fraction of my royal authority leak out. Several of the weaker nobles automatically lowered their heads in submission.

"Your Majesty," Kastian began with false formality, stopping at the prescribed distance. His scent soured with barely controlled rage. "I've come to reclaim what was stolen from me. My wife, my Luna, my honor. Surely even kings must respect marriage contracts and pack law."

The formal words couldn't hide what my wolf senses were telling me. This wasn't about love or even honor. This was about possession, about his wounded pride at being rejected by his own mate.

"Alpha Kastian," I replied, keeping my voice level even as my wolf wanted to growl, "no one has been stolen. I have simply found my fated mate."

"Fated mate?" He laughed, but I could smell the bitterness under it. "How convenient. After years of searching, you suddenly discover your destined partner just happens to be another man's wife?"

My hands clenched into fists. The insult to our bond, to what Kali and I shared, made my wolf snarl with fury. Around the hall, I could sense other wolves picking up on my agitation, their own wolves responding to their king's mood.

"The mate bond cannot be faked," I said firmly, letting a hint of Alpha command creep into my voice. "Every wolf in this room can recognize its truth."

"Can they?" Kastian asked, spreading his hands. "Or will they see a king who decided he wanted another man's wife and invented a convenient excuse to take her?"

Before I could respond, the side doors opened and Kali entered beside James. The moment she appeared, every wolf in the hall turned their attention to her, and I felt a surge of possessive pride.

My mate was transformed. Her scent carried mine now, marking her clearly as claimed to every supernatural nose in the room. But more than that, she moved differently. Head high, shoulders back, with the confidence of a woman who finally knew her worth. Her wolf was stronger too, no longer the cowering, suppressed creature I'd sensed in her before.

"Kali," Kastian said, his voice softening, but I could smell the calculation behind it. "My dear wife. Come home with me. End this madness."

He extended his hand toward her, taking a step closer. The moment he moved within striking distance of my mate, every instinct I had exploded into protective fury. My wolf surged forward, golden eyes replacing silver, canines extending slightly as a warning growl filled the chamber.

"Touch her and die," I promised, my voice carrying the deadly authority of a king who had never made an empty threat.

The temperature in the hall seemed to drop. I could smell the fear spike from several nobles, hear the soft scrape of weapons being loosened in sheaths. My Alpha power filled the room, pressing against everyone present, making it clear that any move toward my mate would be met with lethal force.

But then Kali's voice cut through the tension, clear and strong.

"I choose to remain here, of my own free will," she declared, her words carrying to every corner of the hall. "I renounce my marriage to Alpha Kastian and claim my place beside King Zion as his fated mate."

The moment she spoke those words, our mate bond flared with such intensity that I nearly staggered. She was choosing me, publicly and irrevocably, in front of the most powerful wolves in the kingdom. The gratitude and fierce love that crashed through me was overwhelming.

My wolf preened with satisfaction. Our mate had chosen us over her former Alpha, had claimed us as proudly as we claimed her. The rightness of it sang through every fiber of my being.

"You cannot renounce a sacred marriage bond!" Kastian snarled, his composure finally cracking. His scent spiked with rage and desperation. "The Moon Goddess herself witnessed our vows!"

"The Moon Goddess also destined me for another," Kali replied, and I could smell the truth of her words, the certainty that our bond was ordained by forces greater than pack politics.

Kastian turned to address the assembled nobles, his Alpha power pushing out in waves of fury. "You're witnessing the destruction of everything we hold sacred! Marriage bonds, pack loyalty, the very foundations of our society!"

But Alpha Donovan, one of the neutral witnesses, stepped forward. His scent carried conviction, not doubt. "What I see is a woman exercising her right to choose her mate. The mate bond supersedes all other claims. That is pack law."

"But only if the bond is genuine!" Kastian shot back, his eyes flashing gold as his wolf pushed closer to the surface. "I demand proof that this isn't simply political convenience disguised as destiny!"

The challenge hung in the air. I could feel the assembled nobles' wolves responding to the tension, some submitting to the dominant males in the room, others bristling with the anticipation of conflict. The smell of adrenaline and aggression was thick in the air.

I felt Kali's brief flicker of uncertainty, quickly replaced by determination. My brave mate was ready to prove our connection to anyone who doubted it.

"Then you shall have your proof," I said, stepping forward with Kali at my side. My wolf was calm now, confident in what we shared. "Let any who doubt examine the bond between us and judge its truth for themselves."
