Shortly after Hailey left, Colton took a shower and changed into clean clothes. He carried Mia to the bathroom to do her business. She couldn't have a proper shower yet because of her injuries so he cleaned her up the best way he could.
Once they were back in the room, he served breakfast, then they ate together, with him feeding Mia. He made sure she finished everything on her plate.
After they were done eating, Colton handed Mia her medications and a glass of water. Then he went ahead to clean up.
Going back to the bedside, Colt kissed Mia on the lips, then sat opposite her on the bed. "You're worried about Hailey. Aren't you?" He said.
Mia sighed. "I want to trust her and everything she said here but I don't know what's holding me back."
"She and Enoch used to have this strong bond. A bond other people will kill to have. They have so many things in common, their families know each other, plus they've been together for a very long time. It's so strange to hear Hailey say she no longer feels anything for him."
"Perhaps, there's more to what happened between the both of them. Something they are definitely not telling us about."
"Maybe. I know I gave her my word that I wouldn't say anything to Caleb but that was just to calm her. He has to tell me what his intentions are. I know my younger brother more than he knows himself. Something is definitely up."
Colton intertwined his hand with Mia's own. "But don't worry. Caleb respects you. He wouldn't do anything that will get him on your bad side and that includes messing with your best friend."
"Hailey is more than a best friend to me. She's my sister. I won't think twice before chopping off Caleb's dick if he dares to hurt her."
Caleb chuckled. "Then what would you tell our Babies you did to their uncle?"
"I'll probably not say anything until they are 16 or 18. By then, they will have a proper understanding of why I did what I did."
Colton Smiled, giving Mia's hand a light squeeze. She was about to say something else but they were interrupted by a knock on the door.
Before they could give the person on the other side the permission to enter or not, the door flung open and it revealed Victoria Royal. Colton cursed softly, knowing he was in some deep shit.
"Oh my God!" Vicky stopped in her tracks the moment she sighted Mia seated on the bed.
"Just when I thought I had a good Son who will never keep anything away from me." She mumbled with a heavy heart.
Colton rose to his feet and approached his Mother but she stopped him from coming close to her by raising a hand.
He sighed. "Mom, it's not what you think?"
"Spare me that bullshit, Colt. Your wife who is also my daughter had an accident and I'm the last person on earth to know? I also only found out by chance. If I didn't come to the hospital for a check-up, I wouldn't even know you both are here!"
"Imagine someone walking up to me and offering some condolences when I have no idea about the accident. You should learn how to be more responsible!" Victoria lashed out at her older son before approaching Mia on the bed.
"My love," Vicky whispered to Mia, hugging her.
"Hi, mom." She returned the hug.
Mia's heart went out to Victoria when she heard her sniffle. "It's okay, Mom. Please don't cry. I'm getting better."
Pulling away from the hug, Mia saw Vicky's glossy eyes. To cheer her up, She reached for Victoria's hand and placed it on her belly.
"We are Fine, Mom."
A relieved smile crept to Victoria Royal's lips.
Mia wanted to tell her about the twins but she decided not to until She and Colt are on good terms.
"Thank God you both are in good health. I'm super relieved to hear that." Vicky wiped the tears away from the corner of her eyes with her free hand.
"I promised to be there for you and I've failed in my duties already."
"Please don't say that. You had no idea about it all. And please don't be mad at Colton. He hasn't gotten any sleep since last night. He's been constantly worrying and looking after us. We just finished having breakfast and he was about to call you."
"I know how it sucks to hear something like this from a third party but I promise you that we didn't intend to keep you in the dark. Colton loves you so much, Mom. He adores you and I know the last thing on his mind is to do anything that will upset you."
Victoria nodded slowly. "My temper gets the worst of me. I'm sorry for pouring out my anger on your husband. I just felt that he should have contacted me immediately."
Giving Mia's hand that was in hers a light squeeze, Victoria Royal rose to her feet. She approached her son who was standing a couple of steps away from the hospital bed with a plain expression on his face and arms folded.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. And thank you for taking care of my daughter and Grandbaby. Thank you for staying strong for everyone." She looked up at her son who just stared at her like he wasn't paying any attention to what she was saying.
"Come on, Colt. I said I'm sorry." She gave him her puppy dog face.
"I'm not Derik Royal, Mom. So that face will definitely not work on me." Colt said, trying to stop himself from smiling.
Mia laughed softly where she was seated.
"What does my husband have to do with our little fight?" Vicky mumbled.
"You get away with everything when you give him that face. But that's not with me."
Victoria rolled her eyes at her eldest Son. "I might as well tell Mia to apologize to you on my behalf." She smirked.
"I'll remember to tell your Grandbabies how manipulative and hot-tempered their grandma can be."
Vicky frowned. "You know that's not true. You wouldn't dare to turn my grandchild against me. Would you?"
"You mean your Grandbabies?"
"Grandbabies?" Vicky reiterated, confusion written all over her face. "You mean this bundle of joy and your future kids with Mia?"
"Gosh, Colton. I already told you I'm sorry." She groaned. "You have no idea how much I've been waiting for this beautiful moment in my life. The moment I'll be a Grandmother and spoil my precious grandchild. Please don't take that away from me." She said with pleading eyes.
"God, I love this woman so much." Colton smiled at his mother. "We fight a lot but heaven knows I will choose you over and over again to birth me into the world. You're forgiven, mom." He engulfed her in a hug.
Mia couldn't help with the smile on her face as she watched both Mother and Son reunite.
"Please forgive me too for not calling you the moment I found out. I just didn't want you to worry"
Victoria sighed, pulling away from the hug. "I know. It's just that I'm very protective of my kids and I'm most vulnerable when they are going through hard times. I know I won't be here on earth with you all forever but while I'm still here, I want to share in not only your joy and good times but also in the hard times too. I hope you can understand."
Colton nodded. "And hey, as far as I'm concerned, you and Dad aren't going anywhere soon."
Victoria smiled. "Definitely not."
"Good. Since you will be having your hands full in the coming months. I would love to introduce you to some very special people. You might end up loving them more than me but I don't care."
Victoria arched a confused brow.
Colton took a glance at Mia. She nodded with a smile on her face.
"After an emergency check-up yesterday, the doctor revealed that Mia and I are expecting twins!" Colton said, proudly.
