The Golden Palace Restaurant's private dining room felt different in the evening light. Piper sat alone, watching Singapore's lights flicker to life through the window. Mr. Wong's usual seat remained empty, though his jade cufflinks lay on the table before her - taken from his office by Noah's team.
The door opened. Mr. Wong entered, impeccable in his tailored suit. He stopped short at the sight of her.
"Mrs. Chen-Blackwood. I wasn't expecting-"
"Sit." Piper didn't raise her voice, but authority rang in every syllable.
He hesitated, then complied. His eyes found the cufflinks.
"Interesting jewelry," Piper said softly. "Family heirlooms?"
"A gift."
"From the Chen family? Like the pendant my brother wore?"
Wong's face remained impassive, but his hand twitched slightly.
"How long?" Piper asked. "How long have you been working with them?"
"You don't understand-"
"Oh, I understand perfectly." She slid photos across the table - surveillance shots of Wong meeting with Chen family members. "Twenty years of patient planning. Waiting for the right moment."
"It's business," he said finally. "Nothing personal."
"You helped them try to kill Jasper. You endangered my daughter's school. That feels personal."
Movement outside the door - Gabriel and Noah taking position with their security team. No escape routes this time.
"What do you want?" Wong asked.
"The truth. All of it."
He studied her for a long moment, then seemed to come to a decision.
"Your mother destroyed more than just the Chen family," he began. "She broke alliances, betrayed partnerships. All to protect her precious Project Phoenix."
"The experiments on children."
"On you. And your brother." Wong leaned forward. "She needed the perfect heir. Someone who could withstand what was coming."
"What was coming?"
"This." He gestured around them. "Singapore. Asia. The real power base she'd been building."
Piper's phone buzzed - a message from her brother: "He's lying. Ask him about the formulas."
"What formulas?" she demanded.
Wong's expression flickered. "I don't-"
"The chemical compounds. The ones you helped develop for Project Phoenix." Piper pulled out more documents. "The ones you tested on children."
His face went still. "Where did you get those?"
"You didn't just help the Chens. You were part of it from the beginning." She stood slowly. "You helped my mother experiment on her own children."
"We were creating something revolutionary!" Passion finally broke through his calm. "Enhanced cognition, accelerated development-"
"You were torturing kids."
"We were building the future! Until your mother got cold feet, sent Alexander away-"
"To protect him?"
"To hide the evidence." Wong's laugh was bitter. "She knew what would happen if anyone found out. So she erased him, buried the project, and destroyed everyone who knew too much."
"Except you."
"I was useful. Connected." He straightened his tie. "Still am."
"That's why you offered protection. To get close again."
"The Chens want revenge. I want to finish what we started." His eyes gleamed. "Your son... he could be the next subject. Perfect age to begin the treatments."
Piper moved before conscious thought. Her hand caught Wong's throat, slamming him back against his chair.
"If you ever come near my children," she said softly, "I will end you. Slowly."
The door burst open. Gabriel entered with their security team, Noah right behind.
"It's done," Noah reported. "Files sent to the authorities. Chemical weapons charges, illegal human experimentation, conspiracy-"
"You can't prove anything," Wong gasped.
"Actually, we can." Alexander's voice came from the doorway. "I remember everything you did to me."
Their brother walked in, followed by two police officers. Wong's face went pale.
"Mr. Wong," one officer said. "You're under arrest."
As they led him out, Piper turned to Alexander. "How did you know?"
"Because I never forgot." He touched his temple. "The experiments worked, sister. Just not the way they intended."
Her phone buzzed again - their mother this time: "It's time. All the players are in position."
"She's calling us out," Alexander said quietly.
"Us?"
"The successful experiments. Her perfect children." His smile was razor-sharp. "Ready to meet the architect of our suffering?"
Through the window, Piper watched police cars surround the restaurant, lights flashing. Wong's arrest would hit the news within hours.
"The Chens," she said. "They're not just helping you for revenge."
"No. They want the formulas. The research." Alexander moved to the window. "Power like that... it's worth killing for."
"And our mother?"
"I want to finish what she started." He turned to face her. "One perfect heir. One expendable backup."
"Which am I?"
"That's what tonight is about." He checked his watch. "She's waiting at the tower. All the major players in one place."
Piper's phone lit up with another message - from Noah's team: "Chemical traces found in Wong's office. Matches Project Phoenix compounds."
"He was still manufacturing it," she realized.
"For the next generation of experiments." Alexander's voice hardened. "Using your children as subjects."
The pieces clicked into place. The school incident, the threats - all designed to expose Wong's true plan.
"You were protecting them," she said. "My kids."
"Our family." He touched the jade pendant at his throat. "The Chens gave me a home when ours was destroyed. But blood... blood calls to blood."
Gabriel appeared at her side. "Perimeter's secure. Wong's in custody."
"And the tower?" Piper asked.
"Margaret's waiting in your office. All exits covered."
She looked at her brother - the stranger who'd saved her children, the victim who'd become a protector.
"Together?" she asked.
Alexander nodded. "Together."
As they left the restaurant, a final message appeared on her phone - not from their mother, but from Mr. Tan:
"Choose wisely tonight. Some debts can never be repaid. Some sins can never be forgiven. But some bonds... some bonds transcend even the darkest experiments."
The game was reaching its end.
And Margaret Blackwood waited above the city, ready to finish what she'd started thirty years ago.
One perfect heir.
One expendable backup.
