The Heiress Strikes Back

Chapter 58

Ch. 58 / 60 Jun 16, 2025

A Day to Remember

"Ashley, you look breathtaking," Irene whispered, her eyes shimmering with tears as she fastened a delicate pearl necklace around her daughter-in-law's neck.

"This necklace belonged to your grandmother," Irene said softly. "It's your 'something old.' She would be so proud of you today."

Ashley touched the pearls gently, feeling the weight of family history and love. "Thank you, Mom. It's perfect."

A knock on the door interrupted their moment. Harold stepped in, his eyes widening as he took in his daughter's bridal elegance.

"My little girl," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "Ready to walk down the aisle?"

Ashley nodded, slipping her arm through her father's. "Let's do this."

The ceremony venue was intimate, adorned with soft candlelight and blooming flowers.

As the music swelled, all heads turned to watch Ashley and Harold make their way down the aisle. Demitri stood at the altar, his eyes locked onto Ashley, a smile playing on his lips.

"Who gives this woman to be married to this man?" the officiant asked.

"Her mother and I do," Harold replied, his voice steady despite the tears glistening in his eyes.

As Ashley joined Demitri, the world seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them in a bubble of love and anticipation.

"Ashley/Emerald Donaldson," Demitri began, his voice resonating through the room, "from the moment I met you, I knew my life would never be the same. You are my partner, my confidante, my love."

He took a deep breath, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "Today, I not only make vows to you but also to our unborn child. I promise to be a loving husband and a devoted father. I will protect, cherish, and support our family, now and always."

A collective sigh swept through the guests, many dabbing at their eyes with handkerchiefs.

Ashley smiled, her heart swelling with love. "Demitri, you are my rock, my safe haven. I promise to stand by your side through every joy and challenge, to nurture our love, and to build a home filled with laughter and warmth for our child."

As they exchanged rings, a brief moment of confusion arose. The best man patted his pockets, a look of panic crossing his face.

"Uh, I seem to have misplaced the rings," he whispered, his cheeks flushing.

Laughter rippled through the guests, breaking the solemnity of the moment. After a tense few seconds, the maid of honor produced the rings from her purse, grinning sheepishly.

"Always prepared," she quipped, handing them over.

Demitri and Ashley chuckled, the brief hiccup adding a touch of charm to the ceremony.

"With this ring, I thee wed," Demitri said, sliding the band onto Ashley's finger.

"With this ring, I thee wed," Ashley echoed, placing the ring on Demitri's hand.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant declared. "You may kiss the bride."

Demitri leaned in, capturing Ashley's lips in a tender kiss, sealing their vows.

The reception was a cozy affair, filled with close family and friends. As the evening progressed, the couple took to the dance floor for their first dance.

"May I have this dance, Mrs. Vasiliev?" Demitri asked, extending his hand.

"It would be my pleasure," Ashley replied, her eyes twinkling.

The soft strains of their chosen song enveloped them as they swayed together, lost in each other's embrace. The world around them faded, leaving only the rhythm of their hearts beating in unison.

"Here's to our fresh start," Demitri whispered into her ear.

"And to the beautiful journey ahead," Ashley replied, resting her head against his chest.

As they danced, the challenges of the past seemed to melt away, replaced by the promise of a future filled with love, laughter, and the pitter-patter of tiny feet.

Surrounded by their loved ones, Ashley and Demitri knew that this day marked the beginning of a new chapter—a chapter they would write together, hand in hand, heart to heart.
