The Heiress Strikes Back

Chapter 48

Ch. 48 / 60 Jun 16, 2025

The Trap

The night air was thick with the sounds of bass-heavy music that echoed from the strippers’ club, vibrating through Demitri’s bones as he stepped onto the sidewalk.

The neon lights flickered above, casting a red glow that felt too sinister, too much like a warning.

His heart pounded in his chest, but he wasn’t sure if it was from the anticipation or the anxiety clawing at him. Elena had promised him answers, but now that he was here, the knot in his stomach only tightened.

The entrance was guarded by two burly men who didn’t even glance at him as he passed.

Inside, the place was alive with chaos—half-naked women on stage, men shouting, and the intoxicating smell of alcohol hanging in the air.

It wasn’t a place for someone like Demitri, but he had no choice. He needed to find Elena, needed to know where Ethan was hiding. He scanned the crowd, his eyes darting over the sea of faces, but there was no sign of her. No one even seemed to notice him as he moved through the throngs.

He pulled out his phone, dialing Elena’s number, but it went straight to voicemail. His jaw clenched in frustration. Where the hell is she?

He moved toward the back, where a set of private rooms lined the walls, but after a few minutes of searching, he still couldn’t find her. Every second that passed made him feel more exposed, more vulnerable.

Just as he turned to leave, feeling like a fool for trusting her, a sleek black car screeched to a halt right in front of him.

He barely had time to react before the car doors flew open, and two men lunged at him. He fought back, adrenaline spiking as he struggled to break free from their grip, but it was no use. One of the men slammed his knee into Demitri’s stomach, knocking the wind out of him.

Before he could do anything else, his hands were bound with heavy chains, and a black bag was thrown over his head, plunging him into darkness.

His breath quickened as panic set in. What the hell is happening? He tried to struggle, but the more he fought, the tighter the chains dug into his wrists.

The sound of the car’s engine roared to life, and Demitri felt the car speed off. He had no idea where they were going, but every passing second made his stomach churn with dread.

After what felt like an eternity, the car came to a screeching halt. The bag was ripped from his head, and the blinding light made him squint.

His eyes adjusted, and he saw he was standing in the middle of an unfinished building, surrounded by cracked concrete and the smell of dust and decay. He was thrown forward, stumbling but managing to catch his balance just before he hit the ground.

The heavy door of the building slammed shut behind him, and as Demitri straightened himself up, he saw a familiar figure sitting confidently on a dusty chair in front of him.

“Elena?” His voice was hoarse, disbelief mixing with anger. “What the hell is this? You told me you would help me. Why are you doing this?”

Elena smiled wickedly, her eyes gleaming in the dim light. “Did you really think I was going to help you, Demitri?” she sneered, rising from her chair. “Oh no, I lied. This was never about helping you. You were just a pawn in my game.”

Demitri’s jaw tightened as realization struck him like a slap to the face. His fists clenched at his sides, but he kept his composure. “You lied to me. You brought me here under false pretenses just to... what? Sell me out?”

Elena chuckled, stepping closer. “Not quite sell you out. More like sell you to Ethan.”

“Ethan?” Demitri’s heart skipped a beat. “You’re working with him?”

“Oh, I’ve been working with him for a while now,” she said, her voice dripping with venom. “And now, you’re mine to deal with.”

Before Demitri could react, the sound of footsteps echoed in the distance, getting louder with every passing second. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up as a figure emerged from the shadows, and Demitri’s blood ran cold.

Ethan.

The man who had caused all of this. The one who had kidnapped Ashley, who had terrorized everyone he cared about. Standing before him, looking completely at ease, was the man who had brought Demitri to the edge of madness.

“You’re finally here, Demitri,” Ethan’s voice was smooth, almost taunting, as he casually leaned against a column, his arms crossed. “I’ve been waiting for this moment.”

Demitri’s hands balled into fists, his body tense with rage. “You!” he spat. “You’re the one behind everything, aren’t you? You’re the one who’s been pulling the strings, the one who kidnapped Ashley and my mother.”

Ethan smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. “You’re not as slow as I thought. Yes, it’s all been me. And now, you’re here because of Elena. She’s the one who lured you in. I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist.”

Demitri’s breath came in quick bursts as the weight of the situation crashed down on him. He had been played. Elena was never going to help him. She had set him up.
