Derek’s POV
“Alpha Alex, I’ll level with you. I’ve given Baron a large amount of money to develop new poisons. I can’t afford your weapons. And we really need your help. How about this? I know something that you must want to know,” Richard said.
Richard mentioned the one who offered him poison! A man called Baron!
Who was Baron? He could offer rare poisons for Richard. It seemed that he must be an expert in poisons and he might be a pack leader. But I was sure that I had never heard of the name before. That was weird.
“What do you mean?” Alex asked.
“I mean, Lucy’s child,” Richard kept his voice low, but I still heard it.
I knew there must be a reason for their cooperation, but I didn’t expect that things could be so complicated. If I remembered it right, Lucy was Alex’s sister and she had died a long time ago. I hadn’t finished reading the whole information that Francis had given me. I didn’t know that Lucy had a child before she died.
“What?” Alex sounded very surprised.
It seemed that Alex didn’t know it either. Their pack seldom communicated with other packs, so they didn’t have many information sources. I had a feeling that I was approaching a big secret.
“Yes, Lucy’s baby is still alive. If I can get your help, I’ll tell you everything I know about her,” Richard said.
“Really? How is that possible? If you dare to joke around, I’ll kill you first and then destroy your pack!” Alex growled at him.
Richard was about to give more details to prove that he was right. I also wanted to know more about the mysterious baby.
However, at this moment, Kent mind-linked me. Another man is coming in your direction. Watch out.
I narrowed my eyes. It must be the man called Baron, the one who could develop poisons.
Got it. You leave first. I’ll catch up later. I mind-linked them.
Yes, alpha.
I pricked my ears and heard tiny footsteps. He was coming to the house.
I held my breath and stood still, waiting for him to enter the house.
However, he stopped in front of the door.
Did he feel my presence?
When I followed them to the house, I made a point of leaving no footprints. I stamped on their footprints and it was not easy to discover my presence.
“Damn!” Suddenly, he cursed under his breath.
Then he opened the door and slammed it.
Fine, I was not sure what happened to him, but he didn’t discover me.
I needed to leave now.
I held my breath and walked with my back to the wall. I walked along the way I came here and walked to the trail.
As I walked to the trail, the door suddenly opened behind me!
It was Alex. Why did he suddenly come out?
“Who’s there? Come out!” He discovered me and shouted.
It was time to run!
The other two men also got out of the door immediately and realized that they were followed by a man in black and with protective gear.
They ran after me immediately.
“Stop now or you’ll regret it!” Richard shouted from behind. He sounded like an idiot.
It was not the right time to kill him, but I could play a trick on him. Now that I was in the protective gear, I was not afraid of the poisons.
I could speed up and get rid of them easily, but I didn’t. Instead, I slowed down a little and concentrated the energy on my fingertips. I waved my hands and suddenly a bolt of lightning appeared and hit Richard on the spot.
“Ahhhhh!” He cried out in pain.
I turned around and stole a glance. As expected, Richard fell straight to the ground on his back and there was even smoke because of the electric shock.
“Alpha Richard!” Baron went to his side to check on him.
Only Alex was running after me. I stole a glance at him and sent electricity to him.
However, the same trick didn’t work on him. He suddenly sped up and dodged the lightning.
Fine, he was quite strong as a middle-aged man.
As I was thinking about how to get rid of him, he took an arrow and a bow out of nowhere. Then he began to release the arrows.
I tilted my body and dodged it. The arrow fell on the weeds nearby and suddenly it was on fire.
My eyes widened. There were always rumors that the Lumiere Pack possessed powerful weapons. Honestly, I didn’t take it seriously because Erika could summon any weapon she wanted. Now I realized what it meant by powerful weapons. Alex could use arrows with fire and it would be extremely painful once hit by the arrow.
I stopped and turned around. Facing Alex, I narrowed my eyes.
“Who ordered you to follow us?” Alex asked with a low and husky voice.
Now I saw his features closely. He looked very dominant and formidable with a beard. He must be a difficult guy to deal with.
“I don’t know why you would have any dealing with Richard. A word of advice, Richard is a highly suspicious and treacherous guy. He needs your help now. When you are of no use to him, he’ll chew you up and spit you out,” I decided to draw a wedge between him and Richard.
He sneered, “You are from the Blood Moon Pack, aren’t you? Maybe the Alpha?”
My face changed. He was way more perceptive than I thought he was.
