Lily was the first to finish her meal. She glanced at Kayden who sat on her right and teased " if we were in a competition, I definitely would win". But Kayden did not reply nor spare her a glance.
Justin had been stealing glances at his Lord and the woman by his side. Lord Kayden seemed uncomfortable with Lily's presence. The happy cheerful Alpha a while ago had now turned into an icy cold expressionless man.
Seeing Kayden ignored Lily. He felt the atmosphere become chilly with a compressed aura. To ease the tension, and not make Lily angry he jokingly asked "that's how Lord eats and I am beginning to adapt to his way too"
His fear was immediately dissipated when Lily chuckled and Said " I am usually excited when I eat my favorite foods and always end up emptying the plates earlier than usual. And fried rice is my favorite!" She replied happily with a giggle but suddenly paused with a frown.
Justin saw the sudden frown on Lily's face and immediately asked "what happened, why the sudden frown?" He wondered at how dynamic this woman was. A moment ago, she was smiling and suddenly she turned from smiles to a frown.
"How did I know I like fried rice? I lost my memory and can't remember a thing about my past,"Lily explained. Is there a chance that she'll recover soon? She can't remain an amnesia patient forever, she can't live this life that only knows the present. The past is forgotten and the future uncertain.
Kayden Diego's forehead twitched. Before Lily ever finished her statement, he already was wondering how she knew her favorite food. This is a good sign, the earlier she remembers her past, the less time she'll have to spend in his mansion.
"Oh really? You're suffering from amnesia?"Justin inquired. He looked at Lily's gloomy face. She really is unhappy with what had befallen her. He was concerned and felt pity for her. He knew that lord Kayden rescued a woman and he was the one who helped call Doctor Ning to examine her. He was happy when he learnt she was out of danger but didn't know she would lose her memory. It's really pathetic.
"Is there a chance that I will recover soon, Kayden Diego?"Lily asked. Looked like she was determined to drag Kayden into a conversation. She turned to Kayden Diego and glanced at him, obviously waiting for an answer.
But unlike before, Kayden Diego dropped his chopsticks. He can't take it anymore. This woman was making herself a pain in the ass, pestering him. He would leave the dinning if he wants to have some peace and quietness.
"Call him Lord, he's our Alpha!" Justin corrected her sharply. Kayden Diego is the Alpha of the largest werewolves pack in the world. His rebuke was harsh but not annoying. She has no right to call him by his full name. He's her Alpha as well.
"Oh..I am sorry Lord Kayden," Lily apologized. It was an oversight and rude on her part. She clasped her palms together. Justin was pleased with her humility and his frown gradually became softened. He had finished his breakfast too and was taking his juice when he saw Kayden Diego standing up.
The latter wanted to Leave when Lily tucked him with her question again "Lord Kayden, please tell me, do I have a chance of recovering soon?"
Unable to endure the pestering any longer, he became aggressive and yelled at her "Are you so stupid that you cannot discern when someone isn't willing to talk to you?"
Justin could perceive his howl from within. Lord was angry with this woman. Does she have a cross with him? Although neutrally, the lord dislikes women and stays away from them like a plaque.
But Lily was personally rescued by him and even has his blood in her veins. And besides that, he shared his roof with her.
Without as much as a glance, Kayden Diego walked away leaving the duo behind. Lily was taken aback by Kayden's outburst. Has she done or said anything wrong? Or was it because she reprimanded him last night for coming to her room so late?.
Justin waved his hand at her face "Hello?" He wants her full attention, he wants her to listen carefully to what he has to say.
Lily looked at him, offering him her full attention. Justin smiled broadly before saying "Listen carefully to me Lily, lord Kayden dislikes women and doesn't want them close to him. But since you now share the same roof with him for the time being, I will advise you to deliberately avoid crossing paths with him. Talk less to him as well except he asks you a question".
"I meant no ill with my question"Lily tried defending herself. She doesn't know why he hates women or why he stays away from them but he should at least be polite towards her.
" I know, but that's why I am telling you what you need to know. Just do what I said and you'll have a great time staying in this mansion. Lord Kayden is a great guy and has a heart of gold. But you must respect him by hating what he hates and do, what he likes. Justin was lecturing her.
Lily gave a slight nod and felt like going back to her room. Her happy mood a while ago had been soiled and the only thing she feels like doing now is to be left alone.
"Here's my card, you can call me when you need any help or questions to ask," Justin said, placing his card before her.
Lily accepted the card and smiled faintly. This guy Justin is friendly and looks nice. Not like a certain person who feels irritated seeing you. She stood up and excused herself while Justin also made his way towards Kayden Diego's study.
As soon as Justin went into Kayden Diego's study, he saw the latter staring intently at his laptop with a faint smile on his lips. He raised his hand and beckoned to him to come over.
The study is a large room with a giant book shelf. The shelf houses a wide variety of books and journals ranging from business journals and books on various human endeavors. There's a large mahogany desk and behind it a swivel chair. There are different files arranged on one side of the desk. There's a part where stationaries are kept.
Kayden Diego sat behind the desk with his computer on the top, obviously feeling excited to have been invited Justin over.
Justin walked over. He looked at the laptop and saw what was displayed on it. A multimillion dollar contract award from the government of Z-country had been awarded to the Starlight Group!.
Kayden Diego is the president of the Starlight Group, one of the largest groups in the city. This contract had been pursued by Kayden for months and he finally gave up on it because the government issued a letter of notification that the project had been contracted out to another group.
Many months have passed after he gave up on that project. Only for him to check his email this morning and realize the same project had been offered to his company as a contract without putting in any form of effort.
Justin was super excited and literally jumped up. "Lord Kayden, this call for celebration". He had hoped they would get the contract until Kayden Diego told him that the project had been contracted out already. Since then, he had completely forgotten about it.
"Mm..mm" Kayden gave a grunt. It really calls for a celebration and they were going to throw a party to that effect. All the employees of the Starlight Group would be the attendees.
As Kayden Diego thought about how he will go about the signing of the contract, his thoughts drifted off to Lily will a cool chill. His intuition was telling him that Lily brought him this luck. But as quickly as the thoughts came to him, sane way he quickly waved it off. It's just a coincidence, only a coincidence.
Kayden had the thought as well but couldn't bring himself to utter it. Lord Kayden seemed not to be thrilled by that woman and he doesn't want to appear stupid by bringing up her name before him. He stole a glance at Kayden and their eyes locked.
His thoughts or rather their thoughts were confirmed by the sudden locking with the other's eyes. But they both pretended as if it's nothing and Justin withdrew his gaze with a beaming smile.
In Imperial city, Lily Cruz, also referred to as Mrs Cross, was announced dead. The internet was flooding with her pictures and the news of her sudden demise.
The news reaching the citizens of the city was that she committed suicide. Though her body was not found for a post mortem examination, a rope was found with her finger prints on it and her belongings like the wedding band and a diamond pendant that belonged to her as confirmed by her husband can only prove that she left a clue behind.
Her husband Mr Damian Cross had explained that his wife had been suffering from depression lately due to her inability to get pregnant after their two years of marriage. This condition of hers was only known to him and her best friend Anna Brook.
But just a few days before her sudden disappearance, Damian Cross explained that she threatened to do something drastic to herself if she discovered that she wasn't pregnant that month.
He had pleaded with her to be patient or at best they can opt for an adoption and keep trying. That was their last intimate discussion on the issue of her getting pregnant.
He had agreed with her to go see a doctor for medical help, because of her depressed state and she willingly agreed to go. Damian Cross concluded that the day they planned to set out, that was the day Lily went to the company and didn't return. That depression must have pushed her into committing suicide.
What hurts the most, according to Mr Damian Cross, was the fact that his wife's remains had been devoured by wolves both flesh and Bones. What an unfortunate and tragic way to die.
