ADRIA'S POV.
I froze and everything went silent. It was like someone had lowered the volume and all the noise had been reduced to echoes. My nightmares flashed in my head at that moment.
'I am you, and you are me'
I kept hearing that in my head, and suddenly everyone turned to me, they all had my face, and broad smiles, then they started to repeat the sentence I had always feared.
'I am you, and you are me'
My mouth fell open and my hand flew to my chest as it felt like I would have a panic attack. I couldn't breathe properly. My breaths were cut short, and no matter how I tried to breathe in long and hard, they were always cut short.
Tears formed in my eyes. No, the day could not have been a dream. What was I seeing? It wasn't real.
"Adria!" I suddenly heard Lucien call, and I turned to him sharply still with wide eyes, then my eyes fell to my hand on the table which had been covered with his. "I called you twice." He said, and I immediately turned to everyone.
No one was looking at me. No one was smiling at me. No one was saying the very sentence I desperately hated to hear, and then I saw her.
She wasn't me. She was just a random girl who wore the same blazer dress I had worn. She also happened to have my kind of figure.
I finally took in a deep sigh of relief.
"Adria?" Lucien called again, and I turned to him sharply once more. "What happened to you?" He asked in concern, squeezing my hand, then I chuckled.
"See that girl over there?" I asked pointing out the girl discreetly.
"The one wearing the same dress as you?" He asked looking at me, and I nodded.
"I thought she was me." I said, and he leaned back, staring at me like he wasn't going to believe me. "Gosh, it was damn scary. I… seriously I don't know how to explain the fear I felt."
"Are you for real? How can that girl be you?"
"She had only the side of her face turned to me, and she's wearing the same dress, we almost have the same figure and… do you seriously think I wouldn't wonder why a doppelganger of me was here on a cruise I was supposed to enjoy with my boyfriend?" I asked, and he chuckled covering his face.
"You're something, Adria. So, you went looking like you had seen your dead grandmother partying only because you spotted someone wearing the same dress?" He asked, and my mouth fell a little.
"Uh, technically?"
"Alright so, we were in the middle of something. Go on, and this time, I'm not closing my eyes." He said, placing his elbows on the table, and staring at me right in the eye.
"Are you seriously still insisting on that? It's quite a shock. Imagine a wolf cannot read the mind of a loved one, nor can he interpret her actions." I said, trying to bug him into surrendering and leaving me alone, but he simply raised a brow.
"You didn't know? This wolf is a dumb, old wolf who needs to hear things in words so speak. I'm all ears." He said, and I looked at my fingers on my table, and started to peel something non-existent on my nails.
"Well, I like you, Lucien." I said, slowly, still staring at my nails and trying to peel off imaginary paint.
"That's not the word. It should be I love you Lucien." He corrected, and I burst into laughter, and looked at him.
"Is it always this hard to say? Why is my heart beating crazily? It's like it's about to burst. Saying those words is like pushing a cow." I confessed to him, and he laughed.
Then, food was served on our table. It was luxurious looking steak that seemed to want to pull out my tongue from my mouth.
Our table was set beautifully, and while Lucien was talking to the waiter, I took in a deep breath and blurted out.
"I love you, Lucien."
"Wait, what? That's cheating. I wasn't ready." He said, and immediately turned to the waiter to finish up business with him.
"Ready or not, here I come. That's my anthem." I told him as I started to cut my steak so I could have my first bite.
"Oh really, now I know just how cunning you are." He retorted, and I giggled as I put the first bite into my mouth.
"Oh my, Lucien! Forget about I love you, this is heaven!" I exclaimed, chewing on the tender steak.
"Look at you." He said, shaking his head.
"So tell me about the wolf world." I said as we ate.
"We are power hungry, and power driven creatures. We crave order in everything we do. We do crazy things when we can't get what we want, and as you know, everyone bows to the Alpha no matter how old they are. No one defies him." He explained, and I started to wonder what would happen if Lucien took me home, and the Alpha coveted me. I giggled at the crazy idea. I'd be catapulted straight into a novel.
What would Lucien do if his Alpha took me? Would he defy his Alpha or surrender me?
"Why are you smiling?" He asked.
"Who's your Alpha. No, that's not the question." I corrected myself, and smiled at the question I was about to ask..
"I can tell you who he is." He said, and I raised a brow.
"Do I know him?"
"Yeah, you do."
"Oh my God! Who the hell is he?" I asked, and a smirk curved up his lip.
"You're looking at him."
At first, I didn't understand what he was saying, not until his smirk grew wider. My mouth fell open, and was thrown into a coughing spree, and hurriedly took my glass of water, and downed it all.
"What?" I asked when I was able to speak, and he laughed.
"I'm him."
"I'm dating the Alpha!?" I asked in shock and immediately covered my mouth with my hands as that had been too loud.
"Yes, I believe you are."
"Holy shit, that is friggin…! It's like I've been thrown into a novel! What do you think our title would be?" I asked, and he chuckled.
"The Alpha and the dumb human?" He asked, and despite myself, I burst into laughter.
"No. It's the Fierce Adria, and naughty Alpha."
"You're so bad at making up a story name."
"Oh come on. Anyone would pick mine."
"The fierce Adria? Seriously?" He asked, and I burst into laughter.
"Alright. Fierce Adria, and the naughty Alpha." I corrected, and he laughed.
"Still weird." He commented, and I used my fork to grab his steak and tried to take a really large bite, but my little lips couldn't take much, and I felt indeed like a dumb human when he calmly exchanged the plates. "Bon appetit." He said with a little smile, and I dropped the steak onto his plate which was now mine. At least, he had eaten just little while I had eaten a lot.
And just then, my phone rang.
"Wait a sec." I said, and took it out..
It was my mum.
But what freaked me out wasn't my mum, it was the time.
The damn time!
